October 21st!

We will be meeting at Barb Erskine's Home this week!
Thursday at 7:30pm

Some highlights will be the importance of family dinner and the positive effects it can have. Also be sure to let me know if you haven't had a chance to read the Proclamation and Parenting article because as soon as everyone has we can talk about it :) I have a few copies and we are working on getting it online.

We had a great time at Shirley's house this month. Mm those cakes were to die for. Thank you Shirley. I especially loved getting Shirley's perspective on things since her children are all grown. We talked about lots of fun ways to get your kids laughing. Which is not only good for them, but good for you! "Developmental experts who've studied humor say a childhood filled with laughter and fun has benefits that last a lifetime. "A sense of humor offers a huge advantage in life," says Lawrence J. Cohen, author of Playful Parenting and a psychologist specializing in children's play." For more of the article on humor click here. Some of the things we talked about were...

7 Best Ways to Really Crack Them Up

Some suggestions from the sisters who attended were:

Have talent shows
Play hide and seek
Play guess the song (take turns humming, and guessing)
Have treasure hunts/scavenger hunts (go to a park, or your neighbors houses)
Wrestle on the floor
Have dance parties
Read funny books together
Tell Jokes

Q:What do you call cheese that's not yours:

A: Nacho Cheese!

Q: How do you make a tissue dance:

A: Put a little boogie in it!

Q: Which flower talks the most?

A: Tulips of course, because they have two lips!

Oh and check out this blog for a very timely letter on family fun. And did you notice that the Visiting Teaching message was all about nurturing the family? I loved it. Let me know if you have any other good articles to post, blogs to read, messages to ponder, or suggestions for the group. Thanks!

Parenting Tips and Tricks
September 16th 730pm

Parenting Tips and Tricks is meant for all the sisters in the ward who are interested in strengthening the rising generation as well as our relationships with them. Come enjoy the company of your sisters, give and get tips on parenting, grandmothering, primary teaching, aunting, etc... This week we are discussing the handout from last month which was an article discussing the proclamation to the family and scholarly research, (let me know if you want a copy)
We are also going to be discussing ways to get your kids laughing and keeping the atmosphere lighthearted. We are all going to learn from each other so come with ideas on how to be silly, and have fun. For example: funny movies to watch as a family, fun holidays to celebrate, ways to get teenagers to laugh with you, friendly jokes, etc...
Oh and don't forget to check out our blog! It's still a work in progress but over time it will be a great resource for parenting, (grandmohtering, primary teaching, and aunting...)!
